Charred body found in car

NEW DELHI, APRIL 24 . A completely charred male body was found in a Maruti car which too was gutted at Kapashera in South-West Delhi today. The body is believed to be of a doctor who had gone missing from his house at Dwarka in South-West Delhi on Friday evening.

According to the police, the incident came to light when somebody noticed a burnt Maruti 800 car by the roadside at Sector-23, Dwarka, around 9 a.m.

When the police reached the spot, they found a completely charred male body. It was with the help of the chassis number that the police managed to trace the car to Raj Singh Chikara, a resident of Evergreen Apartments in Sector-7, Dwarka.

Mr. Chinkara, a senior official with Punjab National Bank who had opted for voluntary retirement, told the police that his son, Sumit Chikara had left the house in the car around 9-30 p.m. and did not return. After waiting for him till midnight, Mr. Chikara began looking for his son, but to no avail. Finally, around 4 a.m., he informed the Kapashera police station that his son had gone missing. However, while the police traced Mr. Chikara on the basis of his car's chassis number, he had not yet identified the body as that of his son.

The body has been charred beyond recognition and the mobile phone, which Sumit used to keep, has also not been found. But the police believe that the body was that of Sumit only.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Sumit had completed his MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College here and was presently doing his internship at JPN Hospital. He reportedly used to live with his father, while his mother is posted as a visa officer at Washington in the United States.

The police are now trying to find out as to where exactly did Sumit leave for last night. So far, Mr. Chikara has told the police that his son did not mention anything specific about his destination. The police would now try to find out who were the people Sumit used to visit. Another thing which the police would have to find out is how did the car get completely gutted.

Meanwhile, a case of murder has been registered at the Kapashera police station and further investigations are on.
