Canadian institute offers courses

JAIPUR: The Canadian Institute for International Studies (CIIS), functioning in Mohali, on Monday offered its courses in computer sciences, automobile engineering, nursing and fashion designing to the students in Rajasthan with the promise to impart world-class international education. The institute is an extension campus of the Georgian College in Ontario, Canada, which is funded by the Government of Ontario.

The international marketing executive of Georgian College, Sumant Sareen, told reporters here that the CIIS was bridging the gap between the industry and professional training. The CIIS offers a unique option to students to shift to the Canada campus after one or more years of study in Mohali and get the training to become global professionals.

Mr. Sareen said the CIIS students would benefit from the latest North American teaching methods and curriculum, as the senior Canadian faculty comes to the institute on rotational basis for at least one semester of full time teaching. The Indian faculty is also trained in Canada prior to commencement of classes.

The concept of "co-op education" introduced in CIIS has successfully integrated academics with the relevant work experience, allowing the students to undertake work in the industry or business for 12 to 14 weeks after every two semesters. Mr. Sareen said the combination of learning with working would enable the students to gain experience, development professionalism and expand their skills.
