Call centre employee held for auto-lifting

NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old call centre employee has been arrested by the New Delhi police for allegedly stealing a Maruti Zen car. The stolen vehicle has been recovered.

The Anti-Auto Theft Squad of the New Delhi police, comprising Sub-Inspector Vinod and Head Constable Sohanbir, arrested the accused, identified as Abhishek Sharma, a resident of Mathura, at Shankar Road in New Delhi on Friday.

According to the police, Abhishek had completed a three-year diploma course in engineering from Madurai sometime ago. However, he could not get a job of his choice after which he landed up in a Gurgaon call centre.

A few days ago, Abhishek stole a Maruti Zen car and was apparently trying to dispose it off. After stealing the vehicle, which had a Haryana registration number, he had replaced the number plates with a fake Delhi number.

Further investigations are on to ascertain his other involvements.
