Seminar on Russian medicine

NEW DELHI: The significance of Russian medicine in the contemporary world was underscored at a seminar organised jointly by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture and the Delhi Association of Alumni of Russian Medical Institutions here over the weekend. The Chairman of the Trans-Yamuna Development Board, Narendra Nath, was the chief guest.

A multi-media presentation by Alexander E. Petrov, Deputy Director of Science and Technology at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, highlighted the activities of the Ilizarov Scientific Centre for Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics, named after the world-famous orthopaedic surgeon and academician G. A. Ilizarov.

Essay writing competion

NEW DELHI: Ramakrishna Mission is organising an essay writing competition for college students to mark the 143th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. There are two topics for the essay: "Our need for Swami Vivekananda at the present juncture'' and ``Swami Vivekananda on nation-building and the role of our youth''.

The essay should be in English and the maximum word limit is 1,000 words. The last date for submission of essays is September 15.

Felicitation

NEW DELHI: The former Governor of Tamil Nadu, Bhishma Narain Singh, was felicitated at a function here in the Capital on the occasion of his 72 birthday. The function was organised by the All India Lawyers Forum in which Mr. Singh was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award by Justice Ashok A. Desai.

ITBP conference

NEW DELHI: The Annual Operational Conference of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was held here on Wednesday. The conference -- presided over by the Director-General of ITBP, S.K. Kain -- was aimed at reviewing the performance of various field formations and address their operational problems so as to prepare them for future challenges.

Laying emphasis on the basic training and physical standards of ITBP personnel, Mr. Kain said: "Modernisation, up-gradation of equipment and infrastructure must be our operational priority."

All senior officers attended the conference that discussed issues relating to deployment of the force in the North-East and its modernisation.
