Attempt to “browbeat” Kazmi’s family condemned

The Syed Kazmi Solidarity Committee has condemned the alleged attempt by Delhi Police Special Cell to “browbeat and demoralise” the family and supporters of senior journalist Syed Mohammad Kazmi, arrested in connection with the Israeli Embassy car blast case.

The organisation issued a statement alleging that Mr. Kazmi’s nephew, a 16-year-old student and resident of Shaheen Bagh, was on Tuesday evening accosted by personnel of the Special Cell, who attempted to take him away.

The teenager managed to raise an alarm and his abduction was thus foiled by area residents, it alleged, adding that several threat calls had also been made to Mr. Kazmi’s family and his lawyer by the Special Cell, asking them to withdraw their Supreme Court petition.

“This incident was clearly planned to intimidate the family and supporters of Mr. Kazmi,” it alleged, demanding action against the officers purportedly indulging in such acts.
