NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JULY 24.JULY 24JULY The weatherman has forecast a generally cloudy sky with possibilities of rain and thundershower in some areas of the Capital on Sunday.

The maximum temperature recorded at Safdarjung and Palam was 39.4 and 38.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday, while the minimum was 29.0 and 29.1 degrees Celsius respectively. The maximum and minimum humidity recorded at Safdarjung was 77 and 36 per cent, with Palam recording 69 and 43 per cent.

Policeman held

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JULY 24.JULY 24JULY . A Delhi Police Head Constable has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Government for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe for settling a minor dispute.

According to the police, Baleshwar Tanwar, a resident of Bhati Khurd in Mehrauli, South Delhi, had complained to the ACB about a Head Constable demanding bribe. Following this, a trap was laid on Friday and Head Constable Ravinder Singh was arrested.

It came to light that on July 19, Mr. Tanwar had a fight with a group of persons over some petty issue. The police were informed.

Head Constable Ravinder Singh, posted at Bhatti Mines police post in Mehrauli, attended the call. He reached the spot and after some time the two parties were prepared for a compromise. However, Ravinder demanded Rs. 2,000 for allowing a compromise between them. He threatened Mr. Tanwar that if he did not pay up, he would register a case and take further legal action. Mr. Tanwar then complained to the ACB.

A case under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered and the accused has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody. Further investigations are on.

Councillor arrested

A Councillor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe from a construction supervisor for stalling his transfer.

According to the CBI, a construction supervisor, "beldar", complained to the ACB that Councillor Khajan Singh had demanded Rs. 50,000 from him for stalling his transfer from the place where he was posted in North-East Delhi.

The ACB laid a trap at the residence of Khajan Singh in Shahdara, North-East Delhi, today where the "beldar" was supposed to hand over the first instalment of Rs. 10,000 to Mr. Singh. As the money changed hands, the waiting CBI team arrested him.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered and further investigations are on.

Suicide

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JULY 24.JULY 24JULY . A 28-year-old man allegedly hanged himself from a tree at Seelampur in North-East Delhi today.

According to the police, Jayant, a resident of Usmanpur in Seelampur and a native of West Bengal, was found hanging from a tree near a nursery at Yamuna khadar in Seelampur around 7 a.m. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Jayant, who was dealing in jewellery, had suffered losses sometime ago and was passing through a phase of depression.

A case has been registered at Seelampur police station and further investigations are on.
