Molestation alleged

NEW DELHI: A 34-year-old pregnant woman alleged on Thursday that three young men molested her outside the Patiala House court complex in New Delhi.

According to the police, the woman had come to the court for hearing in a case in which the accused were the opposing party. The police, however, have not arrested anybody in the case. A senior official of the New Delhi police said the victim's claim was not corroborated by the people present at the spot where the woman alleged she was molested.

Cop arrested

NEW DELHI: A Delhi police assistant sub-inspector was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi on Thursday for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs. 550 for conducting proper investigation in a case.

The Anti-Corruption Branch received a complaint from a person alleging that Assistant Sub-Inspector Subhash Chander of Keshav Puram police station was demanding Rs. 1,000 to properly probing the case of his friend, Bal Kishan, so that he could be released on bail.

Subsequently, a trap was laid and Subhash Chander was arrested while accepting Rs. 550 from the complainant.

Held with pirated books

NEW DELHI: Three persons have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly selling pirated books. They have recovered pirated books worth several lakhs at the instance of the accused.

Acting on a tip-off, the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Crime Branch raided three bookstores -- Gian Book Depot, College Book Store and University Book Store, all of them located on Nai Sarak near Chandni Chowk -- on Wednesday and recovered pirated books worth Rs. 20 lakhs. The owners of these stores, Gian Chand (Gian book store), Anil Kumar (College book store) and Chaman Lal (University book store) were arrested.

Auto-lifters nabbed

NEW DELHI: Two young men, who were allegedly involved in auto-lifting, have been arrested by the North-West Delhi police. Seven stolen motorcycles have been recovered from their possession.

According to the police, the accused, Ajay and Vijay, were arrested during vehicle checking at Shalimar Bagh in North-West Delhi on Wednesday. The police said the duo, both of whom were school dropouts and unemployed.

Man arrested

NEW DELHI: A young man was arrested on charges of teasing a 32-year-old woman outside the orthopaedics ward of Safdarjung Hospital here a couple of days ago.

It all happened when the woman, a resident of Paharganj in Central Delhi, and her sister-in-law had gone to see a doctor in the orthopaedics ward. She was standing in the queue when a young man, later identified as Lalit, allegedly began misbehaving with her.

She raised an alarm, at which Lalit tried to flee but was overpowered by the hospital security guards.

Held at airport

NEW DELHI: A man has been arrested by Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle out 36,000 Euros to Italy.

The accused, Prem Kumar Chachra, was about to board an Alitalia flight to Milan on Wednesday when the Customs officials intercepted him after they recovered 36,000 Euros worth about Rs. 19 lakhs from his belongings. During questioning, he could not provide the details of the cash in his possession. He was subsequently booked.
