Probe ordered

NEW DELHI: An inquiry has been order into allegations that a Delhi Police officer was involved in a land scam worth crores of rupees.

The action has been taken on the basis of a report published in an English daily on Friday alleging that a well known "encounter specialist" was found involved in a land deal at Sonepat in Haryana.

His "complicity" came to light allegedly during his conversations with a suspected drug trafficker that were tapped by the Narcotics Department of the Delhi police. The taped conversations were also broadcast by a news channel. In view of the developments, the Police Commissioner, K.K. Paul, has asked the Joint Commissioner (Vigilance) to submit the report at the earliest.

Probe demanded

NEW DELHI: The Israeli Embassy has written a letter to Police Commissioner K.K. Paul seeking an expedient probe into the mysterious death of a 24-year-old Israeli woman in a Vasant Kunj farmhouse about two months ago.

Adi Shaked, a resident of Tel Aviv, who was on a trip to India, was found dead on June 21 in the farmhouse owned by a businessman, Sudershan Kohli. She had died of head injuries. She had met Kohli's son, Ankush, in Uttaranchal about a fortnight before she died.

CRPF cop sent to judicial custody

NEW DELHI: The Central Reserve Police Force constable, who was arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing his senior colleague at the 6 Akbar Road residence of the Union Health Minister, Dayanidhi Maran, was sent to 14 days judicial custody by a Delhi court on Friday.

The incident occurred around 7 a.m. when Constable Ganesh of the 73rd Battalion fired 16 rounds on Head Constable Suresh, killing him on the spot.

Bag lifters nabbed

NEW DELHI: Four persons from Andhra Pradesh, including three women, who were allegedly engaged in bag lifting, have been arrested by the Moti Nagar police in West Delhi. The police claim to have seized stolen jewellery worth over Rs. 1 lakh from their possession.

On August 1, the Moti Nagar police received a complaint from Rajesh Kumar alleging that a bag containing jewellery and some clothes was stolen from his car parked near Natraj cinema hall. Rajesh's wife was sitting in the vehicle when a girl knocked at its door to divert her attention. Meanwhile, someone stole the bag.

The police rounded up a 12-year-old girl. She was then sent to the correction home, following which her mother, Laxmi, moved a bail application on her behalf. The police trailed Laxmi to a footpath near Kishan Ganj Railway Colony where she lived. They raided the place and recovered two stolen gold chains from Laxmi and her accomplice, Asha. During interrogation, Laxmi allegedly confessed to her involvement in the Moti Nagar case.

Fake unit smashed

NEW DELHI: Five people were arrested at Bhajanpura in North-East Delhi on Thursday for allegedly running a fake soft drinks manufacturing unit.

Acting on a tip-off that a fake soft drinks manufacturing unit was being run at Bhajanpura, the police raided the place and arrested Sannovar Ali, Tehzeeb, Surjit, Sandeep and Vinod. In all, 103 crates of adulterated soft drinks, a cap locking machine and a pressure machine were recovered from there.
