Petrol pump looted

NEW DELHI: In a daring daylight robbery, four armed men looted Rs.7 lakhs from the manager of a petrol pump at Narela in North-West Delhi on Monday. The incident took place when the manager was going to deposit the cash in a nearby bank in a car.

Police said motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted the car carrying the manager and two other people. They broke windowpane of the car, threatened the persons with a gun and escaped with the bag containing the cash.

Doctor goes missing

NEW DELHI: A doctor working on a part-time basis for different airline offices at Indira Gandhi International Airport here went missing from the airport under mysterious circumstances on June 6.

The doctor Ramesh Kulkarni's wife said that on June 6, Dr. Kulkarni left from their Mehrauli residence for the airport around 2-30 p.m. After working there for a few hours, he went to the Sahara Airlines office and left around 7-15 p.m.. But returned again to keep something in his locker. Dr. Kulkarni called his wife around 4-45 p.m. and said he would be home early. "Initially, I thought that he would have gone to meet his friends. When he did not return till late in the evening, I began searching for him in hospitals, but there was no information about him anywhere," said Ms. Kulkarni. A worried Ms. Kulkarni then lodged a missing report with the police.

Woman acquitted

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has acquitted the mother of a one-and-a-half-year-old boy of the charge of causing his death by wrapping him in a blanket and then locking him up in a room following quarrels with her husband in 1998. Acquitting the woman, Rajni, the Metropolitan Magistrate (MM), Sudesh Kumar said: " I am of the considered opinion that that it is not safe to convict the accused only on the basis of the testimony of her husband, more particularly when the cause of death has not been established.''

Tihar inmate dead

NEW DELHI: A woman inmate of Tihar Jail died in a city hospital on Monday. According to police, Gajendri (55), a resident of neighbouring Ghaziabad, was an accused in a murder and abduction case registered by the Kalyanpuri police in 2002. She was admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital on June 9. She died this morning.

Drug peddlers held

NEW DELHI: Two alleged drug peddlers were arrested at the Inter-State Bus Terminus in North Delhi over the weekend. The police claim to have recovered 27 kg of poppy straw powder from their possession. The accused have been identified as Joginder Pal and Vimal, both residents of Punjab. During interrogation, they allegedly revealed that they had bought the consignment from Kotputli in Rajasthan to sell it of in Punjab.

In another case, two alleged drug peddlers were arrested by the Special Staff of the South-West Delhi police this past Friday. The police recovered 400 gm of smack from them. Durgpal Singh Lodha and Dharmender Sharma were arrested at Inderpuri.

Thieves arrested

NEW DELHI: Four allegedly thieves have been arrested by the North Delhi police. The accused, identified as Asgar, Shah Alam, Sonabbar and Saiffi, used to steal the luggage of people who would hire Asgar's tonga. Two mobile phones, a radio and Rs. 500 have been recovered.
