Another rape case against cop

NEW DELHI, JULY 24 . A 22-year-old woman was allegedly criminally assaulted by a Delhi police constable at Bawana in North-West Delhi on Tuesday night. The accused has been arrested.

According to the police, the unmarried woman had come to Delhi to see one of her relatives. Late on Tuesday night, she hired an autorickshaw, but could not locate the house. She then approached a man, who later turned out to be Constable Sandeep Kumar, posted with the fourth battalion of the Delhi Armed Police, and asked him for help.

Sandeep offered to help. But instead of taking her to the relative's house, he took her to a forest area in Bawana and allegedly criminally assaulted her. He then abandoned the woman and fled from the spot.

On Wednesday, the woman managed to reach Bawana police station and lodged a complaint. A medical examination at Babu Jagjiwan Ram Hospital confirmed the assault. Based on the description provided by her about the culprit, the police zeroed-in on Sandeep. The woman identified him following which he was arrested on Thursday. He has been placed under suspension.

This is the second such incident in the past few weeks in which personnel of the Delhi Armed Police have allegedly been involved in cases of criminal assault. Two constables from the third and the fourth battalions of the DAP were arrested recently after they allegedly kidnapped and criminally assaulted a woman. They had also threatened her husband of dire consequences if he did not pay up Rs. 15,000. The incident was reported from Kalkaji in South Delhi. Both have since been dismissed from service.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Bawana police station.
