To showcase everything about water

NEW DELHI: Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy on Wednesday inaugurated ‘EverythingAboutWater Expo’, an international exhibition and conference on water and wastewater management, at Pragati Maidan here. He also released India’s first water market report at the event.

The report on India’s water market states that unplanned withdrawal of ground water has resulted in depletion of water levels and deterioration in the quality of ground water.

Due to shorter spells of heavy rain in recent times, most of the rain water tends to flow away rapidly, leaving very little to recharge the ground water levels. With an estimated population of 140 crore in 2025, the country’s future requirement of water is expected to shoot up to 11,000 billion cubic metres. The water and wastewater treatment market in India is worth Rs.12,500 crore, growing at 18.4 per cent per year.

International event

Over 300 exhibitors from India and countries like the US, China, Taiwan, Korea, Italy, Australia, Germany and Spain are taking part in the three-day event at Pragati Maidan that showcases latest technologies available for water harvesting, water conservation, irrigation, wastewater recycling and desalination.

More than a dozen new products, technologies and concepts are also being showcased at the Expo.
