Two Central excise inspectors jailed

New Delhi: A city court has sent two Central Excise Inspectors, who were arrested by the CBI for allegedly accepting a bribe, to Tihar jail for 14 days.

Someshwar Thakur, 35, and Survinder Kumar Sangwan, 37, Inspectors at the Janakpuri branch of Central Excise office, were arrested on a complaint by the owner of a manufacturing firm that they were demanding a bribe to not implicate his company under the Central Excise Act.

The two were produced before the court of Special Judge S K Kaushik on expiry of their police custody on Friday. The judge sent the duo to judicial custody till August 24.

The CBI arrested the two from Janakpuri on August seven for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.2 lakh from the 45-year-old complainant, Surinder Kumar Wadhwa. Mr. Wadhwa claimed his firm did not manufacture any goods which come under the purview of Central Excise Act.

The court had on August eight remanded the duo to three days’ CBI custody.
