NEW DELHI

Starry start to Christmas celebrations

Tens…hundreds…and still counting. It seemed as if a legion of stars had descended on earth. In a unique touch to the Christmas celebrations this year, a cultural organisation at Dilshad Garden in East Delhi displayed about 5,000 shining stars at a DDA park this past weekend. And the event has made its entry into the Limca Book of Records, making the function a memorable one.

The ‘star utsav’ had hundreds of stars in saffron, white and green colours put up in rows to create the ambience of tricolour. It also had scores of multi-coloured stars hanging from every nook and cranny of the park. In the cold night, as chilly wind blew across the park, it was a different Christmas experience.

Billed as a first-of-its-kind, the event was organised by ‘Smart’, an organisation under the aegis of St. Francis Assisi Church, Dilshad Garden. The organisers said it was an effort to disseminate the message of peace, unity and harmony. It was also to promote national integration as people from all walks of life thronged the venue to share the joy.

Besides the display of stars, a star-making competition was also organised. The winners of the contest were awarded special prizes.
