NEW DELHI: Inaugurating a conference organised by Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India on “Biomedical Waste Management” in the Capital on Tuesday, Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra announced the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s plans to make the Capital free of biomedical waste and improve overall sanitation facilities in the city.

Referring to generation of 10 tons of biomedical waste each day by various hospitals and nursing homes, the Mayor said MCD was trying to reduce the waste through use of plasma technology. “Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna also supports the use of plasma technology to not only reduce medical waste of Delhi but solid waste also.”
