NEW DELHI: A love affair culminated in the death of a 40-year-old man and injuries to three, including the boy, when the girl’s relatives allegedly attacked them at Bhajanpura here on Monday evening.

The deceased has been identified as the boy’s uncle, Rajesh Thakur. The injured are the boy, Atul (20), his father Anil Rana (45) and uncle Rajesh Rana (40).

The incident took place on Monday evening when the girl’s grandfather Shivraj Sharma along with a dozen men reached the shop belonging to Rajesh Rana in Subhash Vihar. Atul and Anil Rana were also present at the shop.

Shivraj entered into an argument with them alleging that Atul had damaged their photo studio signboard. Soon the altercation turned ugly and Shivraj and his men allegedly attacked the trio and vandalised the shop. One of his men also fired in the air.

Tried to intervene

When Rajesh Thakur came to know about the attack, he reached the spot and tried to intervene. He was hit on the head several times and sustained serious injuries. He was later declared brought dead at Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital.

Rajesh Rana sustained a bullet injury in his leg and Anil injured his shoulder. Atul was hit on his hand with a sharp-edged weapon. All three were discharged after first-aid.

The police have registered a case and arrested Shivraj and his sons, Vinod Sharma and Anil Sharma.

Atul’s family has been living in Paharganj for the past five years. The boy’s family alleged that Shivraj had earlier called Atul to Greater Noida on some pretext in February and beaten him up. He had also tried to implicate Atul in a criminal case.

The girl’s family is reportedly opposed to the relationship as the families belong to different castes.
