NEW DELHI: An 82-year-old widow, Gyan Kaur, become one of the oldest organ donors in the country when her family consented to the noble act following her death this past week.

Doctors at the Army Research and Referral Hospital here said that the liver and corneas of Ms. Kaur, widow of late Tarlok Singh, a retired honorary Lieutenant of the Army, were donated by her family. Her liver gave a new lease of life to the father of a serving officer suffering from terminal liver failure.

Both her corneas gave eyesight to two needy patients.

This was the third multiple organ donation at the Army Hospital this year and the 18th since the inception of the organ donation programme in the Armed Forces in April 2007.
