‘The expansion plan is part of the new AIIMS master plan’

Expansion of residential facilities for faculty, resident doctors and nursing staff proposed

NEW DELHI: The country’s premier medical institution, the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences is all set to expand in an effort to accommodate the heavy and increasing patient load that it has to cope with day in and day out.

Speciality block

According to senior AIIMS officials, the proposed revamping of the Institute will include a new surgical tower with a separate surgical speciality block, an additional outpatient (OPD) department and casualty wards and expansion of the residential facilities for faculty, resident doctors and nursing staff.

Said AIIMS Deputy Director (Administration) Shailesh Yadav at a press meet organised at the Institute on Saturday: “All these expansion initiatives are in the planning stage and aimed at improving patient care. The new surgical tower will have a surgical speciality block, OPD and surgical wards. The expansion plan is part of the new AIIMS master plan and we also have a plan to connect the eastern-western campus.”

“There is also a proposal to offer screening for the outpatient department for common ailments which would take the stress off the super speciality clinics,” he added.

During the press meet the AIIMS officials steered cleared of answering any questions about appointment to the post of Director applications for which have been invited by the Institute.

Applicants

“Applications to the post are welcome till July 10 and it is too early to comment on anything about the process or even about the applicants that we have for the post,” said Mr. Yadav.
