New forms of devotion

A group exhibition titled “Devotion-Transformation” featuring works of over 25 eminent artists from across the country will be held at Art Positive in Lado Sarai here from August 12 to September 30.

“This is the annual show of Art Positive which has the same theme since 2005 when it began. It talks about devotion as the path you lead, and transformation that you undergo on that path. The artists can interpret it any way they like,” says Art Positive director Anu Bajaj.

The curator of the show, Sushma Bahl, adds: “Associating devotion with religion is rather limiting. Devotion can be towards anything.”

The exhibition will feature works of artists like Arpana Caur, Anwar, Sanjay Bhattacharya, Asit Kumar Patnaik, Shubhra Das, Dharmendra Rathod, Seema Kohli, Dimpy Menon, Sheela Chamaria, Shipra Bhattacharjee, Shobha Broota, Shuvaprasanna, Siddharth, Sudip Roy, Surya Prakash, Thota Vaikuntam and Venkat Bothsa.

Sanjay Bhattacharya's oil on canvas titled From power to love: A transformation depicts Lord Krishna and Goddess Kali. “In this work, I use black, which depicts power in Kali and love in Krishna… The transformation from power to love through the same colour can be made out.”

Artist Dharmendra Rathore's canvas titled Tales deals with a different aspect of transformation, “ Tales shows a child playing with the planets… Our tales, which we hand over to future generations, have the power to bring transformation,” he said.

The exhibition will also feature sculptures, installations, ceramic and digital work by participants.
