More fast-food outlets ready at airport

NEW DELHI: The culinary choice for passengers waiting for their flights at Terminal 1-A of Delhi airport has just expanded. In an attempt to provide travellers with more options to eat, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) – which has brought in outlets like Nirula’s – has allowed “desi” fast-food Chinese chain Yo China to open up an outlet at Terminal 1-A.

Less crowded than Terminal 1-B, Terminal 1-A has Indian and Kingfisher Airlines operating out. The idea, according to officials, is to cater to all segments of passengers. “In addition to Yo China, which delivers high quality Chinese cuisine at very reasonable prices, there will also be Café Coffee Day coffee available at the airport,” said an airport official.

Providing travellers who like serious coffee a little consolation, waiting for their flight may not be any less frustrating, but they at least will be able to lace their irritation with real caffeine at Café Coffee Day. “These outlets have been opened at all three departure terminals -- Terminal1-A, Terminal 1-B as well as the Departure Area at the International Terminal,” said an official.

DIAL also has plans to have other food and beverage outlets that will be a mix of take-away and fine dining restaurants to cater to all palates and wallets.

Apart from upgrading the dining options available at the airport, DIAL is also working on construction of the new runway and domestic terminal which are slated to open in 2008. “The modernisation works of Terminal 2 are underway and would be complete in 2008. The terminals would feature modern baggage handling systems and passenger facilities including restaurants,” said the official.
