NEW DELHI: The Governing Body of Kirori Mal College of Delhi University on Saturday recommended manifold penalties for a member of the faculty against whom sexual harassment charges were levelled by a woman teacher.

At a meeting on Saturday, the Governing Body accepted all the recommendations of the inquiry committee against Dr. M. S. Sansanwal, a senior teacher in the Political Science Department of the college.

“The inquiry committee recommended that he not be assigned any position of authority for as long as he is in service and that he also not be a member of any college committee. He will also have to vacate his staff quarters and will not be given two increments. All these recommendations have been upheld by the Governing Body. These will be implemented immediately,” Principal Bhim Sen Singh said. A woman teacher had accused Dr. Sansanwal of sexual harassment in August last year. The matter was handed over to the College Complaints Committee that later set up an inquiry committee to investigate the case.

“Though the inquiry committee has taken a serious note of this misconduct, it fell short of recommending termination for Dr. Sansanwal. That’s because he did not have any previous record of sexual harassment. He also has a good record as a teacher,” said college sources.

Dr. Sansanwal can appeal against the verdict in the Apex Complaints Committee of Delhi University.
