Increase in quota for Haj pilgrims sought

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J.P. Agarwal on Tuesday demanded that the External Affairs Minister increase the quota of Haj pilgrims from the Capital.

“According to the Census figures of 2001, the Muslim population was 1,623,520 and the Haj quota for Delhi was 1,437. The Muslim population in Delhi has gone up manifold and people from outside are also living here,” Mr. Agarwal said.

External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna assured the DPCC president that he would soon take appropriate action in the matter.
