Protest against the recent deaths of Gujjars in police firing

Rajasthan BJP Government charged with targeting the Gujjar community

‘The BJP leadership should intervene and find a solution’

NEW DELHI: The Akhil Bharatiya Gujjar Sangharsh Samiti staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar here on Sunday demanding resignation of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and protesting against the recent deaths of Gujjars in police firing in Rajasthan.

Led by the Samiti chief patron and MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and its president Sukhbir Singh Jonapuria, the protesters assembled at Jantar Mantar and tried to proceed towards the Bharatiya Janata Party national executive venue where a meeting was in progress.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bidhuri charged the Rajasthan BJP Government with targeting the Gujjar community and failing to fulfil the promises it had made to them.“Not only are innocent people being killed, efforts are being made to sabotage our struggle. The BJP leadership should intervene and find a solution before things take a turn for the worse,” he said.

Mr. Bidhuri also stated that his community members were staunchly behind their leader Kirori Bainsla’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status for the Gujjars and also demanded immediate resignation of Vasundhara Raje. He also demanded intervention of the Central Government in the matter.

The protesters were later blunted in their efforts by the police as they tried to break through the barricades.

The police used water-canons and mild force to control the protesters. Some of the protesters were detained by the police.

The Jantar Mantar was witness to another demonstration by Gujjars later in the day when the Gujjar Aarkshan Sangharsh Samiti staged a protest demanding, among other things, Scheduled Tribe status for their community.
