Give proof before raising doubts, says Inspector Sharma’s wife

New Delhi: As she prepares to receive a posthumous Ashok Chakra for her slain husband, the wife of Delhi Police inspector M. C. Sharma on Saturday said political leaders should have ample proof before raising doubts over an encounter which claimed the life of a police officer.

“Political leaders give a statement and forget about it. But such comments continue to inflict pain on the families of slain police officials,” Inspector Sharma’s wife Maya said.

Mohan Chand Sharma, a Delhi police encounter specialist, was killed during the Batla House gun-battle in which two Indian Mujahideen terrorists were gunned down.

However, certain political parties and leaders had raised doubts over the genuineness of the encounter and sought a judicial probe.

“Before levelling any allegation about an encounter in which a police officer has been killed, the political leaders should come out with ample proof. They don’t understand what the families of the martyrs go through after such statements,” she told a news channel.
