Focus on writings of Octavio Paz

NEW DELHI: To revisit and rethink some of the themes central to the writings of Nobel laureate Octavio Paz, a two-day international colloquium titled “Paz after Paz” opened at Lalit Kala Akademi here on Friday.

Over 30 renowned scholars, artists and thinkers from India, Mexico and other countries have come together to celebrate Octavio Paz. The colloquium features six round table discussions on “The poetry of Octavio Paz”, “The role of poetry in contemporary world”, “The relationship between art and poetry”, “The body of eroticism”, “Power, history and politics” and “India in Octavio Paz and Octavio Paz in India”.

On Saturday, “Octavio Paz: A reading of his poetry: Six Voices, Four Languages” featuring four readers besides Mexican strings, Indian percussionists and the poetry of the Nobel laureate in Spanish, English, Hindi and Bengali will be the highlight at IIC Lecture Hall.

Twenty portfolios and books by the Nobel laureate in collaboration with artists such as Duchamp, Balthus, Motherwell, M.F. Husain, J. Swaminathan and John Cage are featured at the exhibition “Octavio Paz, From Word to Gaze” at IIC Annexe’s Art Gallery that is on till December 9.

Collage-constructions by Marie-Jose Paz, artist and widow of the famous personality, are on display at “Figures and Figurations” at Art Gallery till December 9.
