Ajay Grover had absconded to UAE

NEW DELHI: A Sessions court has issued an extradition warrant against an aide of fake stamp paper scam accused Abdul Karim Telgi, following a request from the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Additional Sessions Judge Deen Dayal issued the warrant after perusing the records placed before it by the CBI in connection with Ajay Grover. Grover had been arrested in July in Abu Dhabi on the basis of a red corner notice issued by the Interpol.

The CBI in its application on July 25 had submitted the details of the red corner notice and also documents pertaining to extradition between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

It also submitted the communication which took place between the Indian and UAE Governments in which the Union Home Ministry had sought deportation of Grover who has been charged with the selling and distributing of counterfeit stamps in the Capital.

The agency had also requested Interpol to keep Grover in detention until the CBI got the extradition order.

It is alleged that Grover in connivance with Telgi had caused a heavy financial loss to the Exchequer and had been evading investigation since the opening of the case and had absconded to the UAE.

Grover was declared a Proclaimed Offender by a city court in January 2006 after a non-bailable warrant issued against him could not be executed.

In 2001, on the basis of a complaint from one Vikash Gupta, the Delhi police had seized fake stamp papers worth over Rs.60 lakh at Darya Ganj in Central Delhi.
