Delhi to set standards for builders, says Sheila

To overcome incidents of sub-standard constructions and resultant problems , the Delhi Government is considering setting standards for the builders, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said on Wednesday while presiding over a regional conference on skill development.

The Chief Minister said Delhi is also planning to set up a Construction Academy to impart training to masons and other workers engaged in constructing buildings and other projects.

Ms. Dikshit said coordinated action on skill development has still not acquired the required pace and momentum. But for its part, Delhi Government has taken seriously several steps towards the skill development programme.

Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta said that ITI students in Delhi have been given responsibility of maintenance of government buildings as part of the “Earn while you learn” scheme under Skill Development Mission.
