Court notice to Vivek Oberoi

The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued a notice to Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi on a suit claiming damages of Rs.4 crore from him for his failure to return $300,000 to a Mumbai-based entertainment company.

Oberoi had accepted the money from Mehta Entertainment Private Limited as an advance for participating in a programme organised by the company in the U.S. in 2003 but had failed to meet the commitment citing fitness problems.

The owner of the entertainment company, Deepak Mehta, had signed the contact with the actor through Yashi Multi-Media Private Limited, run by the actor's father, Suresh Oberoi.

Mr. Mehta in his suit submitted that he had moved the High Court as the actor failed to pay the advance amount despite legal notices served to him in 2005, 2006 and 2007. He urged the Court to direct the actor to pay the dues with 18 per cent interest per annum. Issuing the notice, Justice S. Ravindra Bhat asked Vivek Oberoi to file a reply by November 1.
