NEW DELHI: The Congress candidate for the Lok Sabha from North-East Delhi, J. P. Agarwal, on Thursday undertook a foot march through several parts of the constituency and declared that his priority would be all-round development of the area.

He also campaigned in Rohtas Nagar from where former Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma’s son Vipin is contesting the Delhi Assembly by-election.

Mr. Agarwal’s campaign in Rohtas Nagar assumes significance considering that Vipin Sharma had to lobby hard for the party ticket from the constituency after his father’s death earlier this year.

It was after Ram Babu Sharma demitted office in 2007 that Mr. Agarwal took over the reins of the DPCC.

Mr. Agarwal said the Congress Government in Delhi had undertaken many development projects in the constituency and more projects were needed for development of the area.

He also admitted that there were several local problems that deserved special attention and for sorting them out it was essential that the Congress was voted to power at the Centre too.

The Delhi Congress leader said education was one area that needed special emphasis in North-East Delhi.
