NEW DELHI: To foster national integrity and promote selfless service by individuals for the marginalised community, a socio cultural organisation is celebrating the arrival of Christmas in a special way at DDA Park at Dilshad Garden in East Delh on Sunday (today).

The highlight of the evening celebration titled “Star Utsav-2008” will be unveiling of a record 5,000 Christmas stars that will illuminate the venue and symbolise unity in the country. A team of observers from Limca Book of Records will also be present to verify the record.

Billed as the first of its kind event, the people behind the socio-cultural organisation ‘Smart’ say their effort is to disseminate the message of peace through the galaxy of shining stars. “There will be 3,000 tri-coloured stars and the rest will be multi-coloured. Besides the 5,000 stars, some of the participants will also show their artistic skills by carving out stars from cardboard,” said a spokesperson from Smart that comes under the aegis of St. Francis Assisi parish church, Dilshad Garden.

The event will also feature a mellifluous musical concert towards the evening by Saina Communications troupe from Kerala. The prize distribution function for the winners of Star display competition would be held thereafter.

The function is expected to be attended by a number of dignitaries including MLAs and Councillors. The event organisers are also planning a Christmas road show on the eve of Christmas, in which Santa Clause will make a round of the area giving out gifts to the poor and marginalised sections of society.
