NEW DELHI: An exhibition of oil paintings by Goldy Malhotra titled “Ecstasy and Tranquillity” is now on at Dhoomimal Art Centre at Connaught Place here.

A veteran of numerous solo and group shows, both nationally and internationally, Ms. Malhotra is the Principal of Modern School, Vasant Vihar.

At the ongoing show, her works focus on the spiritual journey. In a subtle merger of the symbolic with the chronological, she examines the landmark events of the spiritual founder through the use of telling symbols and episodic details.

The genesis of the show goes back to a very personal phase of her life when she was introduced to stories about the gods by her grandmother. The sight of a calm Buddha amid a plethora of gods in animated stances set her imagination afire.

Speaking about her ongoing exhibition, Ms. Malhotra says: “Forty years ago, I started painting. My first exhibition was mounted when I was studying in a senior class. Even though I am the Principal of a school in the city, I still find time to work on my hobby. Working on these paintings evolved as part of my continuing process of bringing order to my thoughts and understanding the profound relevance of one’s faith.”

The current exhibition of 25 oil paintings is on view till this coming Sunday.
