39 arrested for violating order

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: With the Republic Day Parade just a week away, the Delhi police have arrested 39 people from different parts of the city on charges of violating the tenant verification order.

For the past few years the police have been appealing to landlords to get the identities of their tenants verified. Camps are organised from time to time at different places to sensitise them.

However, the police have not been getting the desired response from some areas.

To send across a strong message that those who do not comply will be dealt with strictly, the police launched a drive against such landlords this year.

While 21 people were arrested in East Delhi, four were arrested in North-East Delhi, two in North-West, five in South-West and one in West Delhi.

As per a notification issued by Delhi Police Commissioner under Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure, it is mandatory for landlords to inform the local police about new tenants.

Plainclothesmen have been deployed around vital installations, especially in New Delhi.
