The Thane police have called actor Ayushmann Khurrana and two others for questioning after a cheating complaint was filed against them by a filmmaker.

The Kashimira police station sent a letter to Mr. Khurrana, director Amar Kaushik and producer Dinesh Vijan, both of Maddock Films, on Sunday by after receiving the complaint from Kamalkant Nanak Chandra (39), a resident of Mira Road.

The episode dates back to the time when Mr. Chandra was working on the script of a film which was to be directed by him, the official said, quoting from the complaint.

According to the complainant, he had sent the script on WhatsApp to Mr. Khurrana. The actor allegedly passed it on to Mr. Kaushik and Mr. Vijan and they started making a movie based on it. Mr. Chandra claimed this caused him financial loss and mental anguish. Acting on the complaint, the police have called the trio for questioning. “We want to know their side of the story. We have sent them a letter, asking them to be present before the police,” the official said. “If they fail to appear before the police, it will be construed that they don’t want to say anything in connection with the complaint and necessary action will be initiated,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Khurrana’s legal team has rejected the claim of plagiarism and asserted that their script is original. It maintained the matter is already before the court, which has not given any relief to the complainant. “In any event as the matter is sub-judice and since the date of hearing is June 10, 2019 we are not commenting any further. In any event our script is original,” the legal team said.
