Yet to decide on `I' group entry: Congress (S)

KOZHIKODE, MARCH 17. The Congress (S) president Kadannappally Ramachandran has said that his party has not yet discussed the possibility of facilitating the entry of the `I' group into the Left Democratic Front (LDF).

However, when his attention was drawn to reports that the CPI(M) leader V.S. Achuthanandan was inimical to the idea, the Congress (S) leader said at a press conference it was for the LDF to take a final decision.

"Right now, we are watching the developments in Congress like spectators," he said. He also said that the `I' group leader K. Muraleedharan had not yet spelt out what he had in mind when he spoke about the possibility of a change of political equations.

Mr. Kadannappally was critical of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's style of functioning and alleged that Mr. Chandy had no time to address "people's issues" as he appeared to be spending all his time in fighting the `I' group. The failure of the Government to utilise the donations received for the victims of the tsunami disaster in the State was cited by Mr. Kada nnappally as an example of the Chandy Government's inability to solve people's problems.

Mr. Chandy "has declared a state of emergency in Congress," he alleged. He said Mr. Chandy had lost all moral right to be the Chief Minister since a clear division had emerged even among his party MLAs.

The Congress (S) leader was also critical of the Oommen Chandy government for appointing the Congress (I) leader C.V. Padmarajan as the vice-chairman of the Planning Board and said that "filling up the Planning Board with politicians" was inappropriate.
