A four-day workshop on “Research in environmental and natural resource economics” began here on Saturday.

The workshop is intended to familiarise South Asian researchers working in the field of environmental and natural resource economics with the concepts and techniques of proposal writing.

It is being hosted by the Centre for Excellence in Environmental Economics (CEEE) of the Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) and the South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE).

The workshop was kicked off with a presentation on the KAU’s contribution towards environmental health in crop management .

T.R.Gopalakrishnan, KAU Director of Research, highlighted the KAU’s initiatives in formulating and popularising bio-control agents and bio-fertilisers.

P.V.Balachandran, Director of Extension, highlighted the importance of evolving new models of technology transfer.

Anuradha Kafle of SANDEE highlighted the research programmes of SANDEE.

“Economics of climate change, ecosystem services, and policies and instruments for greener growth are the priority areas of research supported by the SANDEE.

It is interested in formulation of rigorous policy-relevant literature on economic development, poverty and environmental change,” she said.

The workshop has sessions on valuing ecosystems, impact of climate change and water health and economic analysis of environmental regulation.
