Workshop on ornamental fish

KOCHI, FEB. 26. A three-day workshop on breeding, farming and management of ornamental fishes will begin here on Friday. Organised by the School of Industrial Fisheries, Cochin University of Science and Technology, it aims to create awareness among researchers, post-graduate students and the extension workers on the ornamental fisheries industry.

The former deputy director general, fisheries, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, K. Gopakumar, would inaugurate a seminar.

The seminar would be a common platform for the body of recent researches all over the world on varied aspects of ornamental fish collection, breeding, farming and marketing and management, the release said.

One of the major features of the seminar is that special sessions will be dedicated to aspects of ornamental fisheries like aquarium design, construction and setting up, management and maintaining of aquarium. Water quality management, packaging and transportation will be other aspects covered during the seminar.

A technique of breeding freshwater and marine ornamental fishes, their feeding, live feed culture, aquarium plants, fish diseases and their treatment, economics of fish collection, hatchery management and export related documentation will also be dealt with during the seminar.
