Women's body plans protest march

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM NOV. 9. The Kerala Mahila Federation (KMF) will organise a State-wide march against unemployment and atrocities against women.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the president of the KMF, B. Sasikumari, said the marches would be taken out from Thiruvananthapuram in the southern end of the State and Kasaragod in north Kerala respectively. The marches would terminate in Thrissur on November 28, where the Cooperation Minister, M.V. Raghavan, will address the participants.

Ms. Sasikumari added that the march was being organised as a mark of protest against the increasing rate of unemployment, especially among women. Though the number of unemployed who had registered in the employment exchanges exceeded 44 lakhs, the Government had failed to find a solution to this problem, she said while welcoming private investment in the industrial sector. She also urged the Government to take steps to check harassment of women.

Though several cases of sexual harassment had been reported in the State, stern action had not been taken against the guilty, she said.
