Will Manju Warrier be an LDF MLA?

Will actor Manju Warrier tread a new path as a politician and make it to the Kerala Assembly as an elected member any time soon?

Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader K.N.A. Khader provided grist to the political rumour mill when he told the Assembly on Thursday that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) planned to field actor Manju Warrier as its candidate from the Chengannur constituency.

(The seat has been left vacant following the demise of Communist Party of India (Marxist) legislator K.K. Ramachandran Nair).

Mr. Khader livened up the discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address by making sport of the alleged move. He tried to tease out more information on the LDF strategy from the Treasury Benches but to no avail.

The ruling front did not rise to the bait.

Ms. Warrier had been in the spotlight following the formation of the Women’s Collective in Cinema, a fellowship to ensure gender equality in the entertainment industry.

The collective had won the political backing of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
