Vizhinjam clash: another body found

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 24. The body of a 43-year-old man, Marcos, was found near the canal at the Vizhinjam Harbour on Saturday morning. The police suspect Marcos to have been killed in the clash between two groups of fishermen belonging to the same community at the harbour on Friday evening. The body was being kept at the Medical College Hospital after post-mortem examination.

The police suspect Marcos to be a member of the 200 strong group that stormed the Old Church settlement area on Friday evening. An argument over the auctioning of fish at the harbour had resulted in the clash. An official said no relative of Marcos has so far come forward to claim the body. The police suspect most of them to be absconding after Jerome (48) of the Old Church Settlement was killed in the attack. Meanwhile, the body of Jerome was buried amidst tight police security.

The City Police Commissioner, Balaram Kumar Upadhyaya, was camping at the spot. A police team led by the Commissioner conducted searches in several areas in Vizhinjam to arrest those responsible for the murder of Jerome. The police patrolling of the beach has been intensified. No further incident of violence has been reported so far.
