Vijayan continues to be critical

HYDERABAD, AUG. 21. The Culture Affairs Minister, G. Karthikeyan, called on the noted cartoonist and Malayalam writer, O.V. Vijayan, who is critically ill and undergoing treatment at the Care Hospitals here on Saturday.

The visit of Mr. Karthikeyan, who arrived here from New Delhi in the evening, was preceded by a call from the Kerala Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, to the relatives of Mr. Vijayan, on Friday. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, also enquired about the condition of the writer, who was admitted to the hospital on August 10, following a respiratory failure. Mr. Karthikeyan, who interacted with Mr. Vijayan's wife, Theresa Vijayan, and his sister, O.V. Usha, after visiting the writer in the Acute Medical Centre where he is put on a ventilator, also enquired with the doctors about the treatment administered to the septuagenarian writer.
