Video fete from March 25

KOCHI DEC. 7. The second international video festival organised by the Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) and the State Government will begin in Thiruvananthapuram on March 25, 2003.

There would be five competitive sections - Asian, International, Information, Retrospectives and Country Focus, Rajeevnath, festival director, said here today. The Asian category will be confined to video film-makers in the region while the international competition will be open to women film-makers from all over the world. The categories for entries include non-fiction, fiction, short videos and spots, animation and videos directed by women film-makers.

The non-fiction category comprises documentaries and features (no length specification), films on science communication, environment, society, development and related topics.

In the fiction category, tele-films, docu-dramas (60 minutes or less) will be included while the short videos and spots comprise films on any topic with a maximum duration of three minutes.

Both fiction and non-fiction with no length specification will be included in the animation category. Videos directed by women film-makers will be of a maximum duration of one hour.

Films made in video or digital format after January 2001 will be eligible to participate in the festival. The restriction of the year of production will be applicable only to entries in the two competitive sections. All entries should be dubbed or sub-titled in English, Mr. Rajeevnath said.

The last date for submission of video films is January 15.
