Vehicle theft gang busted

KOLLAM, MARCH 3. The Punalur police claim to have busted a major vehicle theft gang following the arrest of five persons. Vehicles theft was on the rise during the past two months from Punalur town and the surrounding areas. Twenty vehicles had been stolen from Punalur alone during the period. This includes several Toyota Qualis vans and even a bus. It was following this that the police maintained a vigil which led to the arrests.

The police said that five persons of the gang had been arrested and those arrested allegedly have links with an inter-State vehicle theft mafia. While some of the stolen vehicles have been recovered, the police expect the recovery of more vehicles in the light of the information gained after interrogating those arrested. The five will be produced before a court at Punalur tomorrow.
