Vayalar Ravi debunks BJP leaders' statements

A Correspondent

NEDUMBASSERY: Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vayalar Ravi on Monday said the statements made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders that there had been a leak in RSS votes in favour of the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the just held Thiruvananthapuram byelection were a mere ploy to justify the factional feud within the party.

Talking to reporters at the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery, he said the byelection verdict would come as a complete disappointment to the CPI (M), which had turned over ambitious following its victory in the local body elections a few months back.

Stating that the United Democratic Front workers had put up a concerted and spirited effort, Mr. Ravi said such unity had not been visible during any election earlier.

According to him, the ouster of the faction that indulged in excessive group politics had also helped to foster the unity.

Mr. Ravi said no political party in the State can claim permanent allegiance of any constituency.

If the UDF and LDF were to have their own permanent constituencies, there would not be the necessity to hold elections in the State, he opined.

According to Mr. Ravi, it was the impartial voters who would determine the outcome of any poll.

Mr. Ravi who is also chairman of the parliamentary committee for sports said steps would be taken to improve facilities at the Sports Authority of India with the participation of corporates.
