KERALA

Tribal families offered new land

Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD: Minister for Electricity, Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Tribes A.K. Balan has said that the Government is ready to provide land, house, electricity and drinking water to the tribal families of Palamala Colony in Kadampazhipuram panchayat near Sreekrishnapuram if they are ready to come out of their settlement now.

The Minister, who visited the colony on Monday, said the land where they were living is in dispute between the Forest Department and a private individual. So the Government was not able to allot them this land. But alternative land could be made available in the nearby areas where the basic facilities would be provided by the Government, he said.

Dozens of families living in Palamala Colony have been facing starvation and unemployment. They have no basic facilities also. They are also not recognised as tribals by the Government. So they do not get any benefit that are given to the tribal peoples.
