Training for women in fish farming begins

KOCHI, OCT. 11. A training programme for women on fish culture in homestead ponds conducted by the Government Fisheries College, Panangad, began here on Monday.

The programme was inaugurated by senior journalist Leela Menon, who pointed out the possibilities of utilising systems like self-help groups and Kudumbasree projects for empowering women.

M.K. Sheela, director of Extension, Kerala Agriculture University, who presided over the function, stressed the need to protect the water sources and conserving natural resources.

Dr. Krishna Sreenath, Head of the Department of Extension, Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), C. Mohanakumaran Nair and Aneykutty Joseph spoke at the function. Susheela Jose, Head of the Department of Aquaculture who is also the course director, presented an overview of the training programme.
