Traffic restrictions on `pongala' day

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 3. In view of the Attukal Pongala festival, the city police will restrict traffic to the temple from Friday midnight, according to an official release here. Vehicles carrying pilgrims will be allowed only till the Overbridge junction. Pilgrims will have to be off-loaded at the junction.

Parking of vehicles will be allowed only along the Chakka by-pass. Vehicles should proceed from the Overbridge junction to Chakka through the Uppidamoodu bridge, Vanchiyoor, Pettah route. Vehicles coming from Thiruvallam area should off load the pilgrims at Ambalathara junction and then proceed towards Chakka by-pass through the Kumari Chantha route.

Vehicles coming from Pettah and All Saints area should off load pilgrims at West Fort and proceed towards the by-pass for parking. Vehicles from Neyyatinkara would be allowed till Attukal through the Karamana- Kunjalanmoodu- Jagathy- Kannettumukku- Chembonikkara- Killipalam route.

Vehicles proceeding from Attukal towards Neyyattinkara should take the Jagathy- Killipalam- Thampanoor- Bakery junction- Palayam route. Buses operating towards Kamaleswaram area should take the NH by-pass- Balwan Nagar- Kamelaswaram- Thiruvallam route. Vehicles going from Thiruvallam to East Fort, Thampanoor and Medical College should take the Ambalathara-Kumari Chantha- NH by-pass- Inchackal route.

Vehicles coming from Neyyattinkara will be allowed parking on the new bund road along the eastern side of the river Killi. Vehicles going to Neyyatinkara after the Pongala could take pilgrims from the Attakulangara by-pass.

Buses will be allowed to operate from Killipalam, Ayurveda college junction, Thampanoor bus stand and West Fort.
