Traders to take out Collectorate march

KOLLAM, NOV. 29. Traders, under the banner of the district unit Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi, will march to the Collectorate here on December 1 against the move to shift to the Value Added Tax (VAT) system from April 1 next year.

The samithi general secretary, G. Gopakumar, said that the VAT system would not only mean a drop in Government revenue, but also a system which would subject the trading community to permanent harassment by the Sales Tax Department.

On November 27, the samithy organised a special convention here to apprise the traders on the adverse effects of the VAT system. Mr. Gopakumar said that even the public would suffer on account of the system. The march to the Collectorate will begin from the Vyapari Bhavan on Vadayattukotta Road.
