Three held on murder charge

Thiruvananthapuram Oct. 22. The Kazhakkoottam police on Wednesday arrested three persons in connection with the double murder of Kochukutty or Shyamkumar (26) and Vinod (23) at Kalpana colony, Menamkulam, Kazhakkoottam, on October 16.

The arrested are Sudesh (19), `Simran' Vinod (20), both residents of Kalpana colony and Binu (24), a resident of Kottukonam, Parassala.

According to the Circle Inspector of Police, P. Raghu, both Shyamkumar and Vinod were members of a goonda outfit run by one `Vettu' Suresh, who is said to be involved in several cases of murder and armed attacks. The two however, parted ways with Suresh following an altercation, after which they had threatened to kill Suresh. It was allegedly in retaliation that Suresh arranged Sudesh, `Simran' Vinod and Binu to kill the two.

Shyamkumar and Vinod were led to a secluded compound behind a flour mill at Kalpana colony by the others under some pretext. Then Suresh and other gang members allegedly hit them with rocks and then forcibly held them face down on sand to suffocate them to death.

The accused had allegedly been absconding after the incident. Sudesh and Vinod were arrested from a house near the Hill Palace at Thripunithura and Binu from Neyyattinkara. The police claimed to have got vital clues regarding the whereabouts of the gang leader Suresh also.

The accused were produced before the First Class Judicial Magistrate and later remanded.
