Thousands attend midnight Mass

Thiruvananthapuram Dec. 24. The devout and the faithful flocked in large numbers to churches in the Capital where midnight Mass was held to herald the birth of Jesus Christ.

Special services were held at the St. Joseph's Cathedral at Palayam, St. Mary's Cathedral, Pattom, Lourde Forane Church near PMG, St. George Orthodox Syrian Church at Palayam, St. Peter's Jacobite Church on Punnen Road and Madre De Deus Church at Vettukad.

The Mass at the St. Joseph's Cathedral at Palayam was led by the Thiruvananthapuram Bishop, Susaipakyam. The idol of infant Jesus was taken around the Church before the Mass commenced at midnight.

The service at the St. Mary's Cathedral, Pattom, led by the Arch Bishop, Mar Cyril Baselios, commenced at 9 p.m. A procession was also taken out on the Church premises.

Processions were taken out in many churches and the idol of infant Jesus was placed ceremoniously in cribs set up on the church premises. Christmas carols were sung by the members of the church coir after the midnight service. Families were in full attendance in most of the parishes.
