Tension after CPI(M) man's murder

PALAKKAD: Tension prevailed in the Anchumoorthymangalam area in Vadakkumcherry where a CPI(M) workers was killed allegedly by BJP workers on Wednesday night.

The body of the CPI(M) man Soman (35) was cremated after postmortem at the Chozhikkode public crematorium on Thursday.

The police arrested Shelvan, a BJP worker, in connection with the case on Wednesday. Four others were taken into custody on Thursday. Three CPI(M) workers who had been with Soman were injured in the attack. They are undergoing treatment in a private hospital at Alathur.

Their condition is stated to be not serious.

The injured are Ashraf Ali (24), Viswanathan (26) and Mohammed (28).

A dispute between CPI(M) and BJP workers on the polling day of the civic elections must have led to the incident, the police said.

Police pickets have been put up in the area.
