Television crew hurt in attack

Thiruvananthapuram: Three employees of a television news channel were injured when attacked by a six-member gang in Medical College police station limits early on Friday.

The incident occurred past midnight when the crewmembers stopped their vehicle to drop a colleague at Murinjapalam.

Circle Inspector Muhammad Bari said the attackers were travelling in an ash coloured Maruti car. The attack was consequent to a road-behaviour related argument between those travelling in the two vehicles, Mr. Bari said.

The injured persons were identified as Pramod, cameraman, Bibin, sound engineer, and Anu, driver. The police have registered a case of assault in connection with the incident.


The rural police on Friday arrested five persons for illegally extracting sand from the River Neyyar.

The police raided Chembarathivila, Olathani, Manathala and Brahmimoodu ghats. Circle Inspector D. Vijayan said 30 truckloads of river sand and five lorries were confiscated.
